The majority of my photos consist of urban images which capture and reflect life within the city. I find the microcosm of cities to be visually interesting and often overlooked. Most cities have their own rhythm and tend to be so busy that the "small things" get lost in the noise. Many images when taken out of the bigger context become great pieces of art. Urban photography is different from nature photography because of the "visual clutter" and movement that fights for the viewers attention. Cars passing by, people walking and going about their daily routines, provide the opportunity to capture a great image on film. Many of the photos I shoot are images which have been seen hundreds and thousands of times before but are not looked at with the sense of "awe", the way one might look at a beautiful landscape image.

Rural/nature photography takes a great deal of creativity, along with planning and a little luck, to capture a truly original image. Mountains, sunsets, and babbling brooks can be shot so many times by amateurs and professionals alike that they loose their uniqueness and appeal. This is not to say that there are not truly great landscape photographers creating inspiring pieces of work. Ansel Adams immediately comes to mind and is by far the most highly recognized and respected photographer in this area past and present. Images in this gallery were taken outside the "city limits" in a rural setting. These photos try to capture the less hectic rural lifestyle and the nature that surrounds us outside city life. Images remain modern in style with simple composition and a focus on texture.

New to UnColor are hand colored photos. These photos meld the classic qualities of black and white images with just enough color to transform them into wonderful pieces of art. The hand colored images are created using the same high quality standards as the true black and white photos. Each image is processed from a black and white negative and printed on black and white professional photographic paper. Finishing touches are added by my wife Karen, using hand coloring techniques. The combination of the black and white image and a "touch" of color give the image a sense of surrealism. Note: each piece is unique due to the hand coloring technique and may vary slightly from the image you see.
